Really?

So one of our fave bloggers Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage got this ridiculous comment:

"How about leaving these "Shabby Chic" websites to people w/ some talent. All I have seen on yours is corny and cheap. Psst....How about some time spent on a personal makeover? Spotted your photo!!"

Our slammed blogger says:
Yep, my projects are on the cheap, because I hate spending money - but cheap a price-tag doesn't mean cheap product.
Yep, I'm corny. I'm a big old dork and proud of it!
And, yep, I need a beauty makeover. Any sponsors wanna hook me up?

Mandi says:

Dude. That is so beyond disgusting that someone would say this. Apparently she hasn’t been looking at Gina’s blog for very long because she has the greatest projects.

Vivienne says:

Seriously, what the heck with the nasty, spiteful, downright viciousness of this comment?! First, the entire premise of shabby chic is to find beauty in everyday objects and embrace the concept of repurposing and loving old objects. Perhaps this commenter went to the Snooty Le Jackwad school of design? This person is an everyday bourgeoisie, pretending to have some design and fashion pedigree.
psst... how about charm school? (Also? I'd like your Mama's address so I can smack her for not raising you right!)

What do you all think? Let us know in the comments.

I am honestly in shock that people would be mean to you!!!!!! You are oozing positivity, originality and excitement. And you are pretty. Very pretty. I really, really, love you and have loved reading your blog DAILY since I found it. I even tried glazing some painted furniture yesterday for the first time and it looks amazing! Don't let these meanies get you down, you don't deserve any of it. And I think this blog is hilarious.

Seriously...did this chick forget that high school behavior isn't acceptable? Even in High School?!

Meh - send her a big one-finger-salute and keep doing what you're doing - you're awesome.

Also - I joined the crusade. I know my blog is little but I think this is too awesome not to!

Holy crap, that was EXTRA rude!

Prudently Painted Vintage said...

Wow this person went above and beyond! geez rude!!

Jayna Rae said...

WOW!!! I think that people are so rude. You know I bet a hacker could find the origins of these anonymous people. I think I would cry because that is soooo mean, and I don't really cry.

Maggie Massey said...

Seriously...why spend the time writing something like that? You completely rock, Mandi!!!!

Angie Holden said...

Someone has waaaaay too much time on their hands to be sending emails like that! WTH! And I agree -- they are jealous. Hello?? Great blog -- tons of followers -- must have some talent!

Jake and Caylie said...

I'm in shock! You are so so so creative & super cute. Good thing you don't need us to tell you that!
That person who left that comment is obviously uber-jealous of your crap-tastic work.

Unknown said...

Wow, that is disgusting. Did the person really send that and then feel better about themselves?? What an awful way for a person to live!

Sandy aka Doris the Great said...

What a sicko! Man, I can't believe that people get their kicks by bashing others.

extreme personal measures said...

Wait! Seriously people are getting comments such as this? That's awful!

Sue said...

People who like to bash have very insecure personalities! I'm convinced that's how they make themselves feel superior. Pooey on them!

MeMeSue said...

WoW...my feeling is...if this person does not care for the blog...hell...don't go on it! Why make a comment like that?? It amazes me how cruel some people can be.

Denise said...

Wow I was hoping it wasn't an anonymous post because I wanted to see the profile photo of the rude person who left that comment....LOL....They must look fabulous to be so judgmental.....Don't sweat it girl, you are awesome....that is why good things are happening for you....keep it up...

I love your guts,

Denise

I am shocked and disgusted that some one would do that and say such hateful things. I follow Gina's blog and that person has no idea what they are taling about. I dare some one to leave a comment like that on my blog. I do not understand why people want to hurt other people! What a jerk that person is. I like this Blog Mandi! Good for you I love your spunk and you should be confident.

Katie said...

That is so hurtful! I am so sorry that Gina got the comment, she does not deserve it at all. That person is obviously a sad, hurting person who is trying to make others as miserable as them.

Amanda @ Serenity Now said...

I think it is the height of ignorance to criticize someone personally like that. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!

Jessie K said...

To say that was unwarranted is a bit of understatement! What the heck did you ever do to her besides think up cool ideas before she did??? Anyway, I love TSCC, so rock on, girlfriend, cuz you got it and she doesn't!

Lindsay said...

That is HORRIBLE! I can't believe someone would make such a rude comment!!! Deep down, they are probably jealous they can't make things that beautiful!!!

Melissa O said...

Ok first of all I am so sick and tired of people thinking that everyone has to decorate or like the same things. I say decorate the way you want. If someone else thinks it looks cheap...keep that to your freakin self. For the love. For the honest to goodness love. Who has time to be a cyber bully. Like really. These are times where I really just want to slap this person and say "you know why"
Ok that wasn't very positive. But boo on them.

Christina @ The Scrappy Housewife said...

This begs the question, If you don't like projects on the cheap why are you reading DIY blogs? I haven't gotten any mean comments yet, but I really, really hope no one is that mean when I finally do.

Randee Erickson said...

I am amazed at the time and effort some people expend into putting others down! But I also feel sorry for the lack of breeding and general courtesy their mothers didn’t instill in them. (I guess their Moms were too busy working outside the home to spend time teaching their children the important things in life; like do unto others ….yada yada. (I had to have one snarky comment, too!)

In art, everybody has ideas, style, likes and dislikes that are unique and individual to them. Period. It doesn’t determine what is right or wrong, it simply reflects an opinion. While much of the world regards Picasso’s Paintings as masterpieces, I would more likely classify his work as just plain weird and gaudy. My opinion of this does not make Picasso a lesser person; nor me a better one, as some have suggested in their comments.

One of my favorite forms of relaxation is spending way too many hours viewing the awesome (and some not-so-awesome) projects on all my favorite blogs. In truth, there are many more projects that I don’t really care for opposed to those that I drool over, but I would never tell that blogger that I think her project is unworthy of me! Many of the projects that aren’t my style trigger an idea that is and that I wouldn’t have thought of without her sharing! So keep the projects, makeovers and ideas coming! And, from the bottom of my heart, thanks so much for taking the time to share, make tutorials and cause me to smile (with occasional outright gut-laughs) along the way.

Where do people get off being so mean to someone they don't even know! My gosh their self esteem must be a record low!

chris said...

obviously the person who wrote that is in idiot.
there are many blogs that i start following in feeder because i think they will fit to my liking and needs. when i no longer have similar taste of one of them i stop following them. everyone has their own style taste and opinion but it isn't the follower (lurker)'s job or position to tell the OWNER of said blog how they should live and which style to do it in.

im sure there are websites out there that invite banter and rude opinions. home life and style blogs arent those kind. i guess idiots dont know that.

Suzanne said...

WOW!! Somebody is an absolutely miserable person...and obviously wants to make others miserable too.
You're a clever, inventive woman with a really cool blog..Miss Crabbycakes needs to get over it.
(it IS kinda sad to see someone so very unhappy). Smiles, Suzanne

Nordic Girl said...

Okay. So this person thinks they can do better or look better. News flash for you girl, if you can do so much better start your own blog. Then let people judge you for being a complete A..Hole. Leave the high school behavior in your own home, because we don't want to read it or see it. If you have kids, man do I feel sorry for them! Keep up the great blog Gina and don't worry about what these horses asses have to say!

Angie said...

Obviously their momma didn't teach them....if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. That's awful.....

Meshell said...

I'm so sorry you all have to go thru this. That is awful. The only time you "talk down" to someone is when your bent over trying to pick them up. Thank the lord there are more people who realize this is wrong. Can you imagine what the world would be like if we were all like "them". Keep doing what your doing girls.....we love your guts and everything else!

Gentri said...

W-O-W... If you don't have something nice to say, please just stay quiet. REALLY now. You girls are AWESOME!

Lyssa Beth said...

I just don't understand people like this. That is just so mean! It just doesn't enter my training of thought to first ever think such ugly thoughts and second, actually write them up in the comments! DIE ugly comment, DIE!!

Olive said...

We are surrounded by a generalized lack of civility shown in this comment. One reason I adore my blogging friends is that they are kind, considerate, and generous. To this date I have not received a rude comment but I realize it happens all the time. I read the post about the lamp and that was just wrong and again an example of our societies lack of good manners. I am now a huge fan and follower of this blog. hugs♥olive

I cannot believe that brat would say that. Nice response back. I really am mad on her behalf. Ew. Hate mean people!
P.S. Impulsive Addict is seriously funny.

I love what Vivienne said. Seems like some people where raised by animals by the way they act. SMH. If you get her address Vivienne let me know so that we can smack her together. lol. Just kidding violence is never the answer. Right!?!...

LaVonne said...

Wow. I have never received a nasty comment. I hope I don't have to deal with that.

But I like her response. Great job!

Tallulah Eulallie said...

Just stopped by Shabby Chic Cottage. Saw all of her sponsors. Saw the number of followers she has. Yep, just as I suspected: the comment was motivated by jealousy. The absolute proof that it wasn't a valid criticism of the blogger's talent? The nasty comment on Gina's personal appearance. If your critique is strong enough to stand on its own merit, you don't need to resort to an ad hominem attack. Gina, honey, the only thing that needs a make-over is the commentor's personality!

These people are known as trolls. They go around blog land and Facebook and leave awful comments to get people going. They comment on rapes and murders and car crash victims too. It is a sad commentary.

Mean people suck! This person is clearly upset about their own lack of talent and is just taking it out on someone else.

It seems to me that they are in need of a day of beauty...from the inside out!

Gina, my Blissdom friend, I have met you in person and you DO NOT need a makeover. You are beautiful inside and out!

It is obvious to me that your nasty commenter is jealous of you. Jealous of your blog and ability to turn trash into treasures. And Jealous of your success in business and the blog.

Your blog is fantastic, beautiful, and helpful (just like you.) Keep up the good work, I along with many others are enjoying your efforts.

I beg of you to do a mental "scrunch up that comment, toss it in the trash and BURN IT!" Don't let the Dodo get you down.

I have several 'Mormon Mommy/Perfect House/Fix It All/Crafter' blogs in my Reader and there are a couple of them that just irritate me so much (translated: Make me feel SO poor and inferior since I could craft away and never have a 4,000 sf $500,000 house like them)...I realized I wasn't feeling better by reading these, I felt WORSE. Instead of sending snarky comments that rage through my head, I did something crazy---I QUIT READING THEM!

Turnedgypsy said...

I was attacked in January during a contest on facebook. I could not figure out why several women I did not know would say just hateful lies about me. I really was hurt. It hit me hard at first then I kicked off the dust and moved on like I always do. There are mean people in this world and that is just plain facts. I chose to be good and not let them get me down. God will be my judge not some blogger.

Happy Blogging everyone and hope to see you over at my blog sometimes.

Hugs
Chris

ohmyword! who would write that?! the best part is the proof: OBVIOUSLY her nearly 5000 readers AGREE she's shabby chic! duh!!

what a MEAN person. seriously. that makes me so sad someone would waste their time spreading hate around.

on a HAPPY note...found this comical blog through v-spot. loving it! (:

Kelsey said...

Wow...seriously horrified that they would be so rude to YOU. And YOU are MAJORLY TALENTED AND WONDERFUL! They are jealous and horribly bitter that their lack of creativity makes their house AND their personality look UGLY! Keep doing just what you are doing and being just who you are. You are a treasure!!!

Handy Man, Crafty Woman said...

I love that blog! I can't understand why people would bother to make mean comments like that on a DIY/craft blog. I have a DIY/crafty blog, and the few snarky comments i've gotten, I've deleted. yup, I deleted them. I don't give a crap. My blog is my "happy place", and I get enough criticism in other areas of my life, I don't need it on my blog!

BTW, JUST found this site and LOVE it! I'll come back and read more later.

Kirsten @ Mushki Loves said...

Wow! That is so mean! I can't believe people would really say/write these kinds of things!

Wow, Anonymous why don't you just tell her how you really feel! What a RUDE comment and so hurtful and WRONG! I love her blog and you are just a wanna-be hater! Jealousy will get you nowhere! Karma is coming for you! Keep blogging Gina and we will keep on reading! =)

That's just crazy wrong! I love that site. How rude! (you know that little blond girl from Full House?) You know- it reminds me when I worked the 1 hr photo lab at Wal-Mart or really any retail I've worked. I swear people just went there to take their bad day "and miserable excuse for life- that they obviously are too stuck in a rut to change" out on the poor "assumingly uneducated" schmoes that work the jobs they're working. My first Christmas in retail was the most brutal ever- it really was a downer. BUT- I got over it and learned to see people like that in a different light. Sad, really. :( Keep up the awesome website! I Love your "cheap takes on Shabby Chic with no talent"... HA! (sour-casm) smell it? THat's SourCasm.. heh heh heh

Mean people are usually miserable, and a little dead inside. I love her blog, personally. Just sayin.
