Oooooh! Mandi's Got A Hater!

Hey Everyone!! Mandi here.
So here is deal.  Anonymous comments are freakin LAME.  We all know this right? But the most annoying ones are the ones that are written out of complete and utter spite.  I just wrote a post about 10 Bloggy No No's that I have had to learn from during my time blogging.  And pretty quickly recieved this comment:
AnonymousAnonymous said...

Love how you say not to be negative when you are pointing out everything everyone else is doing wrong. And yeah, I am breaking one of your "rules" leaving an anonymous comment.

Mandi Says:
Whoa whoa whoa.  Slow the crazy train down and pull it into the Station-o-Common Sense. First off, let me just say my dear, that if you were trying to make me feel bad, you sorta were not awesome at it...womp womp.
Secondly, the post was not a list of “rules” nor was it written negatively.  You must have overlooked the first line of the post, where I preface it by saying that most of these mistakes are ones that I have made MYSELF.  You also must have missed the part at the end where I warned that any rude comments could end up on Hate Mail, so by leaving me a rude, anonymous comment, you've made yourself the Guest of Honor today.  Enjoy your 15 seconds of fame lady!
I love blogging and I love my readers, so the point that you are CLEARLY missing (that everyone else seemed to get), is that I am trying to share what I have learned so that others don’t make the same mistakes that I have.  This in turn, helps to make my amazing readers' blogs more successful. Please explain to me how that can at all be considered "negative."
Most people are able to resist the urge to be mean or spiteful. You know, knowing that with a little bit of self control (or by simply leaving someones blog) that the negative feelings they have inside wont get wiped up and down blogland like a cruddy diaper.  Since you my dear must not have these flair up sensors, I gladly invite you to spend your time online elsewhere and let Vintage Revivals be a place of positive spray paint fumes.

p.s. I think you might be allergic to my happiness. (You might want to get that checked...along with the flair up issue. Its no bueno.)

I would also like to thank the readers that stood up for me in the comments, it means a lot ladies!

Viv Says:
Um, so I'm clear... pointing out the proper (or more favorable way to do something) is negative...?
I only lather my hair once during a shampoo... but the shampoo bottles all say to "lather, rinse, repeat"  are the shampoo companies negative?   If the furniture refinishing experts point out you should lightly sand between coats, but I never do?  Does that make the experts negative..?
Mandi gave some guidelines. She outlined things that she has observed in her own personal blogging experience.  (Which so far appears to be pretty successful, btw. I'd give her a listen when she hands out advice.)   There is no Blogger's 101... no Blogger By-Laws... you learn by experience, watching what other bloggers do or don't do.    She shared, people.  And if you read through the rest of the comments on that post, you'll notice that there are bloggers who didn't know they could enable their email for replies... people who didn't realize that their word verification option was enabled and/or how to change the option... people who didn't know there are many readers out there who actually don't like music playing on a blog... In other words? They appreciated Mandi's help.
My guess is that anonymous does all of these "no-nos"  and is either a) a misguided rebel; b) has serious issues with constructive criticism; or c) is just lame.
Or possibly, d) all of the above...

What do you say?

I saw that comment-- and the thought def occured to me. . .

Might all your anonymous comments be the same grouchy loser? One lame-o who's so insanely jealous that they get on and leave a petty comment here and there?

Good advice and constructive criticism can be hard to take if you're doing everything the opposite way of the person offering it. It doesn't make one person right and the wrong. Simply take it or leave it's really just as easy as that.

My thoughts on this anonymous commenter is that this person looked in the mirror and didn't like what she saw looking back and is in fact d.) all of the above!

As soon as I become perfect I'll get mad at someone trying to help me. Till then, I'm grateful to others who have good ideas.

Here's what is stuck in my head right now: (Sung to You're So Vain by Carly Simon)
You're so lame, you probably think this blog is about you...
Seriously, I read over Mandi's list and was like, cool - I do most of those things and here's where I need to do better. I had no feelings of 'how dare she try to tell me what to do!' so I don't know what's up with that...
Except for, Dear anonymous commenter: You're so lame... ;*) Sorry if that's stuck in your head now...

Who has the time and energy to leave these kind of comments. I can't even find the time to tell every blogger I think is awesome that they are awesome.

Love what Judy said and Kadbury, you made me giggle! Love me some good 80's rock humor!

Ha, how's this for a blogging no-no. . . forgetting to log out of your husband's account when making comments. - But then you did get to see a cute pic of two of my boys.

I just think that some people are just so unhappy in their off line lives and powerless or unwilling to make the changes necessary to make their lives better. So, being online, these people find "power" by trying to hurt people by being Anonymous. Even tho, they still not able to say their stuff with their name!

Did that make sense to yall?? It made sense in my head lol.

I read that post by you Mandi and I didn't think it was negative at all. Actually, I found it very helpful.

I wonder if Miss Anonymous had been doing most of the no-no's in that post or if she just had her thong on backwards that day . . . either would be quite an uncomfortable situation.

I really liked your blog rules (I wrote one similar after I'd been blogging awhile too), some of those things drive me nutso (like the music--make it stop!! haha), so although I agree with a lot of what you said, I don't understand this blog at all.

I was going through a really negative time in my life (living with my in-laws, where my MIL would do things that made me insane), so I started an anonymous blog to get all the things off my chest she was doing that REALLY bothered me. It really didn't help, it didn't make me feel better to tear her apart and it didn't change the situation I was in.

So I wonder how ripping people apart for ripping YOU apart is any better than what they did in the first place? Like I said before, I totally get why you started this blog, because anonymous (or not anonymous) rude comments DO really suck, I've had them too and I wasn't necessarily kind in my response to them either, so I really do get it--I just think this blog makes you guys come off as...well, jerks. And I don't think you are. But reading your responses, it makes you look like you think you're so much more superior than these "rude" people, when you're being kind of horrible in how you're dealing with them. Anyway, just my opinion, I don't get how you nice, cute, cool girls can say "we want YOU to be positive and happy" and "I'm such a happy and great person" when this isn't really positive or happy at all. Thanks for letting me share some thoughts.

Apparently I'm just askin' for trouble because when I saw your list I thought, "This is sooo cool! Maybe once I learn to blog better, I can offer tips & advice, too!" (I'm such a wanna-b). Anyhoo, I loved your list. I guess the afore-mentioned comentator thinks all teachers (such as myself) are negative b/c we offer guidelines and do's and do not's...silly, oppressive teachers!

I saw that comment not too long after you made that post and thought that person was re-donk-ulous.

Well Mandi.. I thought your post was very helpful!! I have come to the conclusion that people who are cruel and put other people down are unhappy and they feel the need to critisize others in order to make themselves feel better. This person should read more carefully before making comments. If it was so important for this person to write the comment, the least they could have done was sign their name to it.

First of all, I read the post in question and I LOVE Mandi's idea for that post!

So this is my two cents. Almost always, anon comments are from someone who is JEALOUS of the writer and has nothing better to do during the day other than sit around putting negative vibes on other people's posts. I can't WAIT until I get my first negative comment from anon. I think I even know who it will be from....

Good job ladies!

I just want to say that I LOVED this post by Mandi!! Recently, I was trying to start a blog offering crafting tutes, links, etc., and had to put it on "hold" because I just don't know enough about blogging. Reading this post gave me some fantastic things to think about, and sent me searching for similar posts by other blogger's. Trying to school myself before re-starting the blog thing.

I just think people who leave comments like this reader did, really need to find themselves a life!! I could only wish I had time to leave positive comments for everyone, let alone a spare minute to leave negative ones. Pity the poor person, they must be really lonely!!

I took your advice to heart. I was relieved to learn that I am not the only one who hates the music on blogs, especially when one is trying to read blogs while putting kids to bed- blaring music scares two people. I HATE those retype the blurred, squiggly, nonsensical word-ish. Ugh, to the max. So, haters go hate somewhere else.

Danee said...

I forgot to say this: I recently met a blogger/scrapbooker who tells me she gets haters all the time. I was shocked because I figured all the haters were teenagers not SAHM. My eyes are open. I even stumbled upon a blog dedicated to Smacking scrapbook companies and designers/bloggers. Sometimes they get smacking each other which is just bizarre. Really? Do they write this crap during their kid's nap time or do they do it while mommy is on the computer and baby is playing blocks? Why so mean?

Of course there are bad blog, bad projects, bad designs but so what? Just move on if you don't like it or don't agree. Nobody has the right to be mean on another person's blog and NOBODY has the right to say mean things and hide behind a anonymous post. If you have to be "anonymous" to post a comment you should just walk by. If anonymity gives you power then you have big problems.

Brandice said...

Sorry that you are getting the negativity, even in your blog posts that are laughing at negativity. I think this blog is a crack-up! So glad I stumbled over from your guest post on Oopsey Daisy. I seriously laughed out loud at Kadbury's comment! Thank you!!

Misguided rebel. Sweet. Alright, I better go...

but another thing... even the anonymous GOOD comments make me paranoid. I still like em, but I get paranoid. My mind starts to ask bad questions. like, why do you have to be anonymous to compliment my post? Am I that much of a wierdo with bad taste that you have to hide to compliment me? Ah well, maybe I'm overdoing it. Maybe it's time for bed. Good night.
